What a notice must contain

To be effective under 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3), a notice must include:

  1. A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or authorized representative.
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed.
  3. Identification and location of the allegedly infringing material, preferably with the full page address.
  4. Your address, telephone number, and email address.
  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief the disputed use is not authorized by the owner, its agent, or the law.
  6. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the notice is accurate and you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.

Knowingly misrepresenting infringement may create liability under 17 U.S.C. §512(f).

Response and counter-notification

We review notices promptly and may remove or disable access to material while notifying the person who supplied it. A counter-notification must identify the removed material and its former location; include the sender's name, address, telephone number, and signature; state under penalty of perjury that removal resulted from mistake or misidentification; consent to the appropriate federal court's jurisdiction; and consent to service of process from the original claimant.

Repeat infringers

We terminate access, in appropriate circumstances, for repeat infringers.
